(PRWEB) June 22, 2005

Raw Dog Screaming Press is proud to release Alyssa Sturgill’s debut book, Spider Pie, a collection of offbeat fiction. This book is distributed through Ingram, Baker & Taylor, Bertram’s UK, and direct from the publisher.

The author will be making an appearance at Horrfind Weekend 2005 (August 19-21) in support of this release. She will have a reading, followed by a signing in the dealer’s room. More speaking engagements will follow in the summer.

Sturgill is becoming known as one of the most outrageous new authors in North Amercia. Those who enjoy surrealism and dark humor will be attracted to what Spider Pie offers. This book will be of special interest to fans of Steve Aylett, William S. Bourroughs, and Franz Kafka.

In addition to author appearances, Spider Pie will also be promoted through display ads in magazines, banner ads, catalogs, direct mail, and interviews.

From the Back of the Book:

Recipe for Spider Pie: blend 2 cups of dark humor with a healthy dash of oddity, add a pinch of ground freak’s ear and 2 tsp of secret desires. Bake until your neighbors start complaning about the smell.

In her debut book Alyssa Sturgill firmly establishes herself as the enfant terrible of contemporary surrealism. Laden with gothic horror sensibilities, Spider Pie is a one-way trip down a rabbit hole inhabited by sexual deviants and friendly monsters, fairytale beginnings and hideous endings.

About the Author:

Alyssa’s work has been featured in Cthulhu Sex, The Dream People, Crown of Bones (anthology), Gothic Fairytales, Dream Virus, Tempting Disaster (anthology), Decompositions, A Kick in the Nuts (anthology), Girlskin (chapbook), and assorted less memorable publications. She is the co-editor of Bloodcookies Webzine, DJ of its MP3 radio counterpart Bloodcookie Radio, and author of its movie review column, Cinemasochism. She is deeply and psychotically obsessed with obscure cult and horror flicks, and has several rather mind-wrenchingly unpleasant screenplays in the works.

Critical Acclaim for Spider Pie:

“Alyssa Sturgill is a master culinarian of the deliciously surreal, and Spider Pie is her chef-d’oeuvre. Read just a single story and you’ll see why she’s considered one of the most imaginative new talents in recent years.”—Carlton Mellick III, author of Razor Wire Pubic Hair

“These stories will bitchslap your sensibilities and molest your pets. Each macabre absurdity is better than the last. I laughed, I winced, I bled spontaneously from every orifice. With Spider Pie, Alyssa Sturgill firmly establishes herself as the new deviant demoness on the block.”—Craig Sernotti, editor Crown of Bones
